DESCRIPTION:
Glossy grooves with only minor play wear visible on "East St. Louis Toodle-O". This Vocalion recorded in November 1926 is the Ellington band's first electrical record and widely thought of as the first Duke 78 to display "the Ellington effect". The scarce large label pressings of Vocalion 1064, such as this copy, contain the 1926 recordings of both titles, while copies of the later small label Vocalion 1064 substitute the remade version of "East St. Louis Toodle-O" recorded in March 1927 for Brunswick. Label damage on "Birmingham Breakdown" side (see pic).
