78 RPM Calypso Virgin Isles King Cobra Archie Thomas St Croix Record E4 KB 3669
Description:
This listing is for a 10" 78 rpm record from Virgin Isles Calypso performances by Archie Thomas and His Rhythm Makers featuring The Great King Cobra on Vocals. Recorded at Thomas Brothers Record Company in St. Croix, V.I. and I think probably in the late 1950's. Calypso is a musical art form that has long been associated with the Caribbean. Archie Thomas (1919-2002) had a background in alto horn, baritone, bass and saxophone. A trademark of lyrics of the Archie Thomas Band and one of the Virgin Islands most renowned songs by Thomas went "Blow, Archie, Blow". The popular group was a combination of Archie's four-piece band and his brother Wesley. For more than 20 years the group played at the St. Croix by the Sea Hotel, where Virgin Islanders flocked on weekends to listen to them.
I think this record label has a typo error. The "Great" King Cobra is listed on both sides as the "Geat" King Cobra.
Songs on this record include:
- Night Of Fun In Puerto Rico #E4-KB-3669.
- Fresh Pork Calypso #E4-KB-3670.
This record has been played and was obviously enjoyed. I see many scratches and wear. I do not have a turntable that can play this record so cannot address sound quality. The label is still intact, and very readable. We do not have the original sleeve or album cover.
Please Note: I find that this is a harder to locate record so am listing it with condition issues.
Please view my pictures for features, details, contents and condition of this very old record.
I have had much experience and success shipping these fragile records and will package appropriately so that your record arrives intact.
Returns are accepted and refunds gladly given upon original item receipt and inspection. Please contact me if you have any questions about an item you have received.
I welcome questions.
