Description

I am cleaning out a back woods estate deep in Cajun Country.  It has been untouched for decades and the woman kept everything from her rural Cajun family including many records which I will list as I dig them out. Up for auction first is this Joseph Falcon and Cleoma Breaux Columbia 1928  # 15275 D pressing of "Allons a Lafayette" and "The Waltz that Carried Me to My Grave".  This is the first commercial recording of Cajun music ever produced with only 500 recordings pressed.  George Burr, a Rayne Louisiana jeweler, heard that Columbia Records were having auditions in New Orleans, LA for regional music.  He invited local dance hall Cajun music stars Joseph Falcon and Cleoma Breaux (later Falcon) to travel with him to the Godchaux Building in New Orleans to try out for the Columbia executives.   The record executives were not impressed by just two musicians, being that they were used to recording whole orchestras. But Burr ordered 500 copies of this record in order to seal the deal and he sold it in his Rayne jewelry store. Again this is the first commercial recording of Cajun music.
Finally, I am not a record expert but this record is shiny with no obvious damage.  I played all sides of the records that I am selling and they did well. FEEL FREE TO ask me for more information about this record or any I am selling.
