Description

HI FELLOW FOLLOWERS OF GREAT MUSIC, PRESENTED IN THE WAY YOU GREW UP.  IN THIS CASE WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THE  GREATEST SUMMER ROCK HITS OF ALL TIME IN A LIMITED SUMMER SERIES FROM MEMORIAL DAY TO LABOR DAY, ALONG WITH GREAT COMMENTARY, UNIQUE INTERVIEWS, AND FASCINATING THEMES.  IF THIS SOUNDS LIKE FUN, YOU HAVE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE!

THESE ARE GREAT RADIO SHOWS FROM THOSE VINTAGE YEARS OF RADIO SHOWS WHEN DJ'S WERE ALLOWED TO BE DJ'S AND NOT JUST ROBOTS PLAYING 'MOST MUSIC', AND WHEN SHOWS HAD SPECIAL RARE INTERVIEWS AND OFTEN FASCINATING THEMES, AND NOT JUST THE SAME MUSIC EVERY HOUR, OVER AND OVER. YOU WILL LOVE NOT ONLY THIS SHOW BUT ALL THE SHOWS LISTED BY KEITH'S KOLLECTABLES.

AND, THEY ARE RARE BUT HOW DO YOU DEFINE RARENESS??  LET ME TELL YOU!

FIRST OF ALL THERE WERE NO MORE THAN 175 LP OR CD SETS OF EACH SHOW PRESSED.  THIS IS BECAUSE THEY WERE SENT ONLY TO THE AFFILIATE RADIO STATION IN THE TOP 175 RADIO MARKETS IN THE COUNTRY AND ONLY ONE STATION IN EACH MARKET COULD AIR THE SHOW.

STATIONS IN MARKETS BELOW THE TOP 175 (THERE ARE 306 MARKETS IN THE UNITED STATES) HAD TO PRESENT THE SHOW THROUGH THE SATELLITE FEED OF THE SHOW FROM THE SYNDICATOR OF THE SERIES)

AND, DUE TO CONTRACTUAL LEGAL OBLIGATIONS, EACH RADIO STATION WAS ALLOWED TO AIR EACH SHOW EXACTLY ONCE AND NO MORE.

SO, MOST RADIO STATIONS JUST THREW THEM AFTER AIRING SINCE THEY WERE USELESS TO THE STATION AFTER AIRING.  THERE IS NO TELLING HOW MANY OF EACH SHOW SURVIVED.

WHO KNOWS - THIS COULD BE THE ONLY ONE.

WELCOME FELLOW EBAY COLLECTORS TO KEITH'S KOLLECTABLES, EBAY'S PREMIERE SELLER OF VINTAGE RADIO SHOWS OF EVERY GENRE AND UNIQUE COLLECTABLES

GREETINGS FELLOW COLLECTORS OF GREAT MUSIC AND RARE CLASSIC RADIO SHOWS!  PLEASE DON'T FORGET MY SPECIAL OFFER OF A TWENTY PERCENT DISCOUNT WHEN YOU BUY FIVE ITEMS OR MORE AT ONE TIME FROM MY STORE.  IT IS THE LEAST I CAN DO FOR ALL MY FRIENDS WHO, LIKE I , ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR A GREAT DEAL

PLEASE READ ON FOR A DESCRIPTION OF THIS SHOW AND THE SERIES FROM WHICH IT COMES AND THEN IF YOU DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT RADIO SHOWS I WILL PRESENT RADIO SHOWS 101, MY OWN HUMBLE EXPLANATION ABOUT THE HISTORY OF RADIO SHOWS AND HOW I CAME TO FIND THEM.

THE SPIRIT OF SUMMER was probably the best summer  rock show ever to air anywhere.

And, while the music can be found anywhere, this show presents music in such creative sets you will absolutely love each show you can get your hands on.

You will hear the best summer hits of all time from the 60's through the 80's.

This show comes on 1 lp (one hour) in near perfect condition looking just like they were just pressed and played only once, the day they were aired.

They come along with their cue sheets in excellent condition.

SOUNDS OF SUMMER WAS PRESENTED ON CBS RADIO THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER OF 1985 WITH A DIFFERENT EDITION DURING THE SUMMER OF 1986, and 1987.

IT TRADITIONALLY STARTED WITH A THREE HOUR MEMORIAL DAY SPECIAL , CONTINUED WITH A ONE HOUR WEEKLY SHOW THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER EXCEPT FOR ANOTHER THREE HOUR FOURTH OF JULY SPECIAL, AND FINALLY ENDED WITH ANOTHER THREE HOUR LABOR DAY END OF SUMMER SPECIAL.

FILLING A COMPLETE COLLECTION OF EVERY EDITION OF THIS RARE ONE TIME ONLY SERIES WILL LIKELY TAKE YOU YEARS TO FIND BUT I HAVE A BUNCH THAT YOU CAN BEGIN WITH FOR YOUR COLLECTION.

AND, UNLIKE SERIES THAT WENT ON FOR YEARS AND YEARS EVERY WEEK, THIS IS A SERIES YOU REALISTICALLY COULD COLLECT EVERY SHOW OF SINCE IT WAS A TIME LIMITED SERIES.

EVERYONE LOVES SUMMER SONGS BECAUSE OF THE MEMORIES OF SUMMER THAT IT BRINGS BACK TO ALL OF US - SUMMER VACATION, SUMMER PARTIES, THE BEACH OR LAKE OR BOTH, THE ROMANCES, ALL OF IT AND ALL OF IT!

  THIS SERIES COVERED THEM ALL!

This show is one of the best packaged radio shows ever produced.

The cue sheets, as on all CBS Network generated radio shows, are the best quality of any show I have ever seen.  They are in full color

This show is a classic and needs to be in your collection.

THIS SHOW IS THE FOURTEENTH SHOW IN THE SERIES AND COMPRISES HOUR 18 OF THE LIMITED EDITION SERIES

IT  AIRED ON THE WEEKEND OF AUGUST 23, 1985.

The lps are quite attractive.  They were produced as a quality item even though they were pressed for this single playing on the broadcast date and could never be played again, ever.

Exact song listings can be seen in the pictured cue sheets.

Even the national commercials are interesting and fun to hear after all these years.  .  You don't have to hear any of those boring local commercials and if you don't like the national commercials just hit the next track and off you go back to the music. But, you will be surprised how many memories even these old commercials bring back after 36+ years.  On this show you will hear Sun Country, Ford Mercury Cars, Visa, and more.

SO WHAT ARE THE BIG QUESTIONS IF YOU ARE NOT SURE ABOUT WHAT EXACTLY ARE RADIO SHOWS?  LET ME TELL YOU BUT FIRST....

Allow me tell you my own personal story of discovering the wonder of radio shows.

I discovered radio shows quite by accident while reading one of my favorite (long since departed) magazines called "Discoveries" (It was later bought by the same company that publishes "Goldmine" which I personally always considered a lesser publication, but that is another story.

This was before ebay became the driving force in radio show sales (and everything else) in the later 1990's.

I was especially attracted in "Discoveries" to a two page (or more) spread in each issue by a guy called "The Old Hippie".

Let me tell you, the Old Hippie had it all.  He was a real pioneer.  Way before anyone knew what radio shows even were let alone that they could be bought as rarities, he had the market cornered.

Most shows that he advertised were way beyond my budget but I drooled over those pages every issue and once in awhile I could afford one or two.

Now, I have attempted in my own humble way to take on the mantle of "The Old Hippie".  I have listed over 11,000 unique radio shows of all genres for you all to drool over, and most at prices, hopefully, that collectors can better afford!  I want to make available to collectors what I could not afford and especially in these days of higher prices and lesser availability.

Radio shows are harder and harder to find in quantity and the prices for the ones still out there just go higher and higher as they disappear from the market.  However, because of my large presence on eBay, I am often contacted with selling offers, some of which I take advantage of and some I have to pass on because of the prices. I have found that by buying in bulk, even when many or most of the shows are lesser known but still amazing shows, I can offer the best prices on all titles.

And, even though I price all my shows so that I make very little on each sale, most of which I use to buy more shows to make available to you, if you find the price too high, let me know and we can likely work out something you can afford.  I want everyone to be able to have what they want for their collection.

So, again, what is a radio show?

Radio Shows are syndicated productions provided to radio stations usually on what is called a 'barter arrangement'.  There were several large and small distributors who supplied broadcast product to radio stations normally during weekends when the usual air personalities have a break, although in recent years, through bigger companies absorbing smaller ones and many going out of business because the competition was just too fierce, there are only a few big syndicators left.  This is sad because it has led to more homogenization of different formats and selection available for stations and often less creativity in the shows.

Most aired on Saturday or Sundays.  They often feature some of the best known voices for their genre from across the country thus the Dick Clark's and Casey Kasem's and Rick Dees and Dick Bartley and so many others.

People collect them for various reasons.

Some just collect the series because they like it and want them all.

Some collect their favorite artists or genre of music.  Rather than an album by the artist or a compilation downloaded through iTunes or wherever, they have a unique presentation of their favorite artist or music not available anywhere else and always with dj presentations which were very entertaining.

Some collect interviews with their favorite artists as most shows had interview segments.

Some collect commercials and as I said, even these old vintage commercials now bring back memories.

Radio shows were first distributed on reel to reel tape or on CD and even later (after 2000 for most shows) on CDR.  Now they are not available at all to collectors since they are distributed by digital download much like you get your music from iTunes.

These shows become rarer and rarer every day because the people who buy them hold on to them.

The shows that you get now and hold on to will never decrease in value and only increase.   I have prided myself since the start to provide the best and fairest cost with a no holds barred guarantee that you will be happy or I refund your money.

I sell them for near what I bought them for.  I give volume discounts and discount postage always.  As the postal service increases their rates, my shipping rates over the years has decreased.

And, I have one of the biggest radio show libraries in the world consisting of over fifteen thousand of shows, so many that I don't even know all that I have and am sometimes amazed when I go to look for one show and find another that I did not realize I had.

Finally, it is Americana at its best.  Whether the show be from the 60's or 2000's, rock, countdown, oldies, country, classical, religious, jazz or big band, it is unique and home grown.

And you just can't find them anywhere.

Even record stores that still exist will rarely have any.

Radio shows are wonderful representations of the real golden age of radio at least music wise.  And every  one you buy is an original, not a copy, not a remake - all are limited editions. Once you get hooked, like me, it is a love affair for life!

So, I hope you will join me in this and many more  wondrous voyages on the 'SS Keith's Kollectables' as we take exciting journeys together exploring the treasures of radio shows we grew up with and thought were long lost.

May the lost be found!!
