Certainly the finest male vocal quartet at the beginning of the 20th century was the Haydn Quartet. It would be rather hard to identify the personnel for this particular disc (probably recorded in the summer of 1898), but based on the playback, my guess would be John Bieling top tenor, S.H. Dudley baritone, and William Hooley bass. The lead tenor does not sound like Harry McDonough, so after doing a little research reading, it likely is one Jere Mahoney.
In any case, they sing the lovely old hymn "Abide With Me" on 7" U.S. Berliner 4274, and it is a fine job indeed. What a thrill just listening to voices recorded over 110 years ago!
This 78rpm single-sided disc is another nice one, in excellent-minus (E-) condition with much surface shine. There are some of the usual harmless Berliner "dimples."
