Description
This lot contains seven 10-inch 78 RPM records by Glen Gray and the Casa Loma Orchestra, all on the Decca label, and all (as indicated in parentheses below) considered "hot" enough for inclusion in Brian Rust's iconic Hot Jazz Discography. All seven records showed up for the first picture, then they are shown individually or in pairs, both sides, in the following order. Tracks are instrumental unless a vocalist is stated.
Decca # 3089 -- "No Name Jive, Parts 1 and 2." (Both sides listed in Rust, with a recording date of March 18, 1940.)
Decca # 2748 -- "Shadows" and "Beautiful Love", with vocals on the latter by Kenny Sargent. (Both sides listed in Rust, with a recording date of August 13, 1939.)
Decca # 2399 -- "Georgia on My Mind" and "Bone Yard Shuffle." (Both sides listed in Rust, with recording dates in March and January, 1939, respectively.)
Decca # 1650 -- "This Is My Night to Dream", with vocals by Kenny Sargent; and "My Heart Is Taking Lessons", with vocals by Pee Wee Hunt. (Both sides listed in Rust, with a recording date of January 19, 1938.)
Decca # 1412 -- "For You" and "Casa Loma Stomp", with vocals on the former by Kenny Sargent. (Both sides listed in Rust, with a recording date of July 23, 1937.)
Decca # 2031 -- "Song of India" and "Mindin' My Business." (Both sides listed in Rust, with recording dates of December 1, 1937, and February 2, 1938, respectively.)
Decca # 2292 -- "Could Be", with vocals by Pee Wee Hunt; and "I Won't Believe It", with vocals by Clyde Burke. (Both sides listed in Rust, with a recording date of February 13, 1939.)
They could all use a good cleaning, but are otherwise in lightly to moderately played condition, most of them still relatively shiny, but with varying degrees of visible surface wear, the most heavily played being Decca # 3089 and 2399. There were forward skips on "Mindin' My Business" and on both sides of Decca # 1650, but the others all played through without skipping or repeating on my Audio-Technica turntable, with varying degrees of background noise, most of it light to moderate, but also including some pops and clicks and short passages of ticking. Because of variations in tracking ability, filtering technology and needle weights, I can offer no guarantees as to how well they will play on your equipment. Please check the pictures for any label damage or inscriptions or stickers.
International Buyers – Please Note: Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding or buying. Customs fees are normally charged by the shipping company or collected when you pick the item up. These fees are not additional shipping charges. We won't under-value merchandise or mark the item as a gift on customs forms. Doing that is against U.S. and international laws. COMBINED SHIPPING: See our seller list for other interesting and unusual items, in fact bid on several and you might save on shipping and handling. If you buy multiple items, and if it's feasible and cost-effective for us to ship the items together, we will gladly consider requests to combine shipping at a reduced cost. Just e-mail us, and we can provide combined shipping cost estimates on a case-by-case basis. Depending on weight and other considerations, we typically offer full shipping rate for the first item, then 50 cents or $1.00 per item. And if you are purchasing multiple items, please make the payment as a single payment, rather than trying to pay for each item separately. Oh, and this may sound obvious, but we can't reduce the shipping charges for items on which we offer free shipping.
SHIPPING COSTS: If the eBay auto-calculator is not responding, or if you think our shipping costs are too high, please contact us prior to bidding to determine your shipping options and costs. Repeat, prior to bidding, please.
FEEDBACK: Because of abuses we've experienced in the past, we have totally given up on the eBay feedback system, so we neither give nor expect feedback. Please, therefore, do not contact us after the auction asking us to leave feedback. If you ever have a problem with an item you purchase from us, please contact us directly about it before giving negative feedback or seller ratings, and especially before invoking eBay's dreaded Grand Tribunal in processes like "Return Requests" or "Opening an Item Not as Described Case." No one is perfect, and we occasionally mis-describe something, or an item arrives late or gets damaged in the mail, but we are always quick to respond to a problem and set it straight in the most mutually agreeable way.
