THIS IS A RE-ISSUE STEREOTAPE, INC/MAGTEC IN 7 1/2 IPS EXTREMELY RARE. SEE NOTES BELOW:
On this and other Magtec re-issues, Stereotape Inc. used the packaging left over from Bell & Howell's stock, as Magtec never printed their own boxes and started the re-issue process without their own labels.
This James Taylor tape (Sweet Baby James) has the Bell & Howell box & label packaging which was used BEFORE Magtec produced
their own labels, they never produced their own boxes, but later put a Magtec sticker on the reverse side of box at the bottom. Early re-issues did not have the Magtec sticker on the back of the box.
Magtec's later reel labels (the "typewriter" labels) found on most Magtec 3 3/4ips & 7 1/2 ips were not available on this early 7 1/2ips Magtec 7 1/2ips tape. The original B & H label, noting 3 4/4ips is used on this reel. This Magtec tape is an early 7 1/2 ips re-issue tape (before the "typewriter labels" were utilized. designed for 7 1/2ips tape.
The only reference to 7 1/2 was a "Now at 7 1/2 ips" pressure-sensitive label was normally affixed on tape boxes directly (on front) or on the shrink-wrap (both sticker styles are found on sealed Magtec boxes).
In addition the plastic reel is a large capacity Magtec type reel they used only for their 7 1/2ips reissues.
The Bell & Howell James Taylor black reels @ 3 3/4 ips are a completely different style low capacity reel, and
the Magtecs that were re-issued in 3 3/4ips of Sweet Baby James are also of a different plastic reel design (for the 3 3/4ips reissue tapes).
You can verify these facts by looking up the less expensive and more common 3 3/4ips tapes of Sweet Baby James on eBay (version 1 and 2 at 3 3/4 ips)!
