Sound Barrier--Greasy Heart / I Can't Explain--United Audio 904111. Late 60s Ohio garage rock two-sider. This was the same group that released the garage punk monster on Zounds in 1966. The band changed their act and added a female vocalist and polished up their sound for a more commercial appeal. Their vocals and guitar work were well done on these covers. The record came with a way-cool picture sleeve, but it wore poorly and was prone to handling and shelf-wear. The sleeve was 7 1/2" wide, instead of the normal 7", and provided enough play for the disc to slide within the sleeve and it had an unusual metallic finish. Also, the sleeve wasn't constructed as most were. It wasn't a single sheet, folded and glued on a seam. This picture sleeve is actually two-slicks glued together, plus the paper stock was very thin, so the glued seams always appear to have wrinkling. This is true of all copies I've ever seen through the years. Vinyl and labels are new store stock, a solid Mint -. The picture sleeve is VG and still presents well. Unfortunately, this is about as good as they come. The top 2 1/2" of the top right seam is open. It needs re-glued, but I'd advise it be left alone. You have to love the clothes the band's wearing in the photo--man, I remember that crazy period like it was yesterday--lots of paisley and how about that cape? YOW!!! Soundclips will be included.
