Anna King (1937 - 2002)
I was fortunate enough to pick up an original copy of End E-1127 ("Nothing Can Help You Now"/"Who You Gonna Run To"by Lenny Curtis) for just £10 - yes, you're not seeing things. Admittely, it was back in 1981, before it's scarcity was fully realized, but it was still a real bargain, and especially so considering it came from Dave Withers' stall in Manchester's Arndale Centre. He should have known better. Having scooped up Lenny Curtis for a pittance, I then found a copy of E-1129 (Harry Starr's "Another Time Another Place"/"Step Into My World"), which proved to be End's final release. It cost me just £5 - another sign of how much it was under-valued in the early 80s. Both of those records are pretty near mint, so they won't be appearing on ebay.
So, until someone discovers what happened to E-1128, the single on offer here remains the third from last release on New York's prestigious End label, owned by George Goldner. All the other collectable 45s on the label show the front and 'End' image of a dog, one on either side at the top of the design. That sight greeted anyone who bought "Tears On My Pillow" in 1958, the first million-seller by Little Anthony & The Imperials. End also had other R&B super-groups on its books, like The Chantels, The Flamingos, and the pre-Tamla Miracles. These groups made the dog logo a familiar site during the late 50s/early 60s, so it was an odd decision to alter it to a new one. With the benefit of hindsight, it was also bad luck, and proved to mark the end of End.
Anna King's only release for the label appeared on both of its design's, with the earliest of them being currently valued at twice the figure of the second. After an early life rooted in gospel, Anna was coaxed int the secular field, and soon replaced Tammy Montgomery (Tammi Terrell) in The James Brown Revue. So it's perhaps poignant that this should be an answer to Browns big hit of 1965, "Papa's Got A Brand New Bag". Deep soul lovers may prefer the slower flip. I've provided a link below to a small potted history of Anna's life:

Both sides have full youtube postings for the uninitiated.
The styrene has a smallish number of light "spiders webs"/scuffs, but both sides play almost like new.
Both labels have a medium amount of ring-wear, and similar rubbing at the edge.
This record has been played on both sides to verify condition, but there's a full money-back guarantee on all my sales, and I'll refund anyone who isn't totally captivated.
