EDDIE PURRELL
"THE SPOILER"
HEAR HERE!!
Eddie Purrell - The Spoiler - YouTubeA. BEFORE ANYONE ACCUSES ME OF NOT KNOWING WHAT ALPHABETICAL ORDER MEANS, I'LL JUST GIVE THE EXCUSE THAT THIS ARTIST IS REALLY EDDIE PERRELL - AT LEAST MOST PEOPLE CLAIM THAT HE IS; IF SO, HE APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN A WELL-TRAVELLED MAN; HE WAS BORN IN CHICAGO, RECORDING FROM MEMPHIS TO MARYLAND, STOPPPING OFF AT ATLANTA AND SEVERAL OTHER POINTS IN BETWEEN; HIS RECORDINGS AS EDDIE PERRELL ARE CRIMINALLY UNDER-RATD, WITH HIS ONLY LISTED 45 BEING HIS QUETTE RELEASE ("LISTEN") FROM 1964; MY FAVOURITE IS "HEX", RELEASED ON SHURFINE IN 1966 - BUT THAT ISN'T IN EITHER MAJOR GUIDES; AS EDDIE PURRELL THERE ARE TWO 45s TO BE FOUND - ONE RARITY ON HIT SOUND AND THE OTHER ON VOLT (ON OFFER IN THIS AUCTION); WRITTEN BY BOOKER T. JONES AND DONALD "DUCK" DUNN, THIS IS A STURDY ON-THE-FOURS BELTER. WITH COOL KEYBOARDS AND FINE STAX HORNS; IT WAS ALSO RECORDED BY FRENCH-MORROCAN ABDELGHAFOUR MOUHSINE; IT WAS A WISE DAY WHEN HE OPTED FOR THE STAGE NAME OF 'VIGON'; THIS ORIGINAL HANDLING IS SLIGHTLY SLOWER AND MUCH MORE SOULFUL THAN VIGON'S PIGEOEN-ENGLISH 1968 REMAKE

"MY PRIDE WON'T LET ME"
HEAR HERE!!
Eddie Purrell My Pride Won't Let Me - YouTubeB. THIS SIDE IS MAGNIFICENT TOO - ALMOST HITTING BEAT BALLAD STATUS IN MANY PLACES; IT WAS WRITTEN BY LESSER-KNOWN STAX BACKROOM BOYS RANDLE CATRON AND HENDERSON THIGPEN (ANOTHER TONGUE-TWISTER); THE NAME OF CATRON IS GIVEN TWICE FOR SOME REASON, UNLESS IT'S HIS WIFE/BROTHER/SISTER, OR SOME OTHER RELATIVE; MID-TEMPO DEEP SOUL MIGHT BE AN APT DESCRIPTION, BECAUSE THERE'S SOME FINE WAILING NEAR THE END
LISTEN TO THE BOTH SIDES IN FULL VIA THE YOUTUBE POSTINGS ABOVE
(NOT TAKEN FROM THE SALE COPY)
(US: Volt 45-145, 1967)
Vinyl

Record condition (B-side): Excellent (plays Excellent ++) (two brief ticks)

A previous owner wrote 'A' on this side, then covered it over with a small sticker
Someone then removed the sticker, leaving a small amount of bubbling and minor residue
Label condition (B-side): Excellent ++
Deletion hole: No
This record has been played on both sides to verify condition, but there's a full money-back guarantee on all my sales, and I'll refund anyone who isn't totally captivated. Most are sent by 'signed for' delivery.
