Description
MRS was the first ever Jamaican label run by Stanley Motta specialising in mento and calypso releases.
In 1951 Stanley Motta built a small recording studio at 93 Hanover Street, Kingston. The music was cut directly onto acetate lacquers and, as there were no manufacturing facilities on the island, the lacquers were then sent to the UK for mastering and pressing by Decca Records in London. The finished fragile shellac 78rpm records would then be shipped back to Jamaica.
Three scarce Jamaican 78 rpm records:-
1. Baba Motta And His Orchestra with vocal by Young Kitchener
Spelling c/w Reincarnation (Bed Bug)
Motta Recording Studio DSM 43
Condition is Very Good - A few light surface marks, nothing serious.
2. Reynolds Calypso Clippers with vocal by Boysie Grant
Noisy Spring c/w The Naughty Little Flea
Motta Recording Studio MRS 23
Condition is good. A few light surface marks AND there is a 1" crack but should play ok.
3. George Browne and his Jamaican calypso Band
Farewell to Jamaica c/w Day-O
Melodisc 1404
Condition is good with a few light surface marks AND a crack but should play ok.
Please note these are exceptionally rare records, hard to find in ANY condition, but, apart from DSM 43, due to the cracks, are really only space filling reference records. We do want to avoid disappointment!
Rest assured these items will be very well packaged and protected in transit.
