CONDITION:

DISCS:   Apart from a few fine hairline grazes on a couple of sides (caused by the discs being taken in and out of unlined inner sleeves) the discs are  in AS NEW condition: as near to MINT as you will ever see.

SLEEVE: Slight corner wear.  A crease to the bottom left hand corner. Open edges fine. Gloss finish in fine condition.

Dry   is the cornerstone of the 1990's "women in rock" movement.

To paraphrase what Lou Reed said about the Velvet Underground: Not many people bought the album, but those who did formed a band.

The attraction is unmistakable: bluesy riffs played with punk-rock energy suddenly crash to a hush, while Harvey's desperate wails become fatigued moans. What is she so hung up about? Well, in the spirit of the Rolling Stones, love and hope and dirty dreams and sex and sex and sex.

Through the raucous "Oh My Lover" and "Joe", Harvey airs her laundry quite loudly but never loses her wit, as "Sheela-Na-Gig", which features the mantra "I'm gonna wash that man right outta my hair / I'm gonna take my hips to a man who cares," attest.

Polly Jean Harvey and her band had the musical press in awe with this stunning debut and it is easy to see why:  raw-nerve vocals, abrasive harmonies and uncompormised song structures present you with 11 pure, unglossy masterpieces.

It has kind of a bluesy early alt-rock feel so may take a while to get used to if you are not used to that kind of music.

In short its the kind of music you'd expect if Bob Dylan had a sex change, listened to a Pixie's record and then picked up a guitar.

I have been a music collector and enthusiast since the age of 12: That's virtually 40 years!

I offer a range of vinyl records from the past decades as well as a few CDs, usually from my own collection, when I have the occasional clear-out to create space for new additions!

I try to offer only discs of the highest physical quality on ebay as when we're buying record "unseen" it is often difficult to judge the condition of the disc from the seller's (often vague) description. In addition of course we have no real knowledge of the seller's background, experience or standards.

Let me state here that I grade my discs for sale according to the condition guidelines used in the Record Collector Magazine. This gives the buyer a reliable outside reference and a useful guide should the disc turn out to differ in any way from my description.

If this happens I will ALWAYS offer to refund the buyer's payment, including return postage as soon as I receive the record back in  the condition in which it was sent out. If you're not happy, I'm not happy!

I cannot refund a transaction simply because the buyer is not happy with some aspect of the disc which was mentioned in my description but not noticed by the buyer.

I never sell any disc in less than EXCELLENT condition unless its extreme rarity justifies offering a poorer quality copy, in which case I will make it abundantly clear in my description and you will be in no doubt as to what you are bidding on!

Generally my descriptions are deliberately conservative, listing very small imperfections to the sleeve or the very slightest corner-wear which you probably wouldn't notice.  I try my hardest to include all relevant information a potential buyer would want to know. I will always include the nationality of the pressing, where the matrix was cut (if possible), the matrix number and cutting engineer's suffix (you may not care but it's the kind of detail I would want to know about!)

You can expect to receive a disc in a better condition than my description suggests and you can assume that any record I offer for sale, unless I specifically explain otherwise, will be at least EXCELLENT PLUS.

My standards are very high. I have an enormous vinyl record collection which I play on what I consider to be the pinnacle of record player technology,  The TOWNSHEND ROCK V turntable (see   http://townshendaudio.net/  ) with Audio Note IO cartridge, Audio Note cartridge transformers, Audio Note amplification and Townshend Glastonbury 2 loudspeakers.

I will always include a colour scan of the important part of the sleeve, with close-ups of any relevant details (creases, corner wear, edge wear whenever necessary)
I will always include a high resolution scan of the disc's label.

I use Photoshop software to crop and carefully colour-match the scans to the real thing. This is purely to ensure that what you see is what you will get. I don't know how your computer screen is calibrated but I simply try to remove, as far as possible, the need for guess-work on your part!.    (If you are interested, I embed the colour profile Adobe RGB 1998 into all images.)

Do not hesitate to email me if I have left anything out of my items' descriptions. I  am happy to answer if I can any questions you may have and I am fairly knowledgeable about all aspects of gramophone records, old and new, so I will probably know what you are enquiring about!

All discs are posted in sturdy professional disc-mailing cardboard  envelopes. I always insert two squares of corrugated cardboard around the disc arranged  so that the corrugations of each board are at right angle to each other for added stiffness. I guarantee that any disc I most out will not arrive bent, warped or damaged.

I always remove the disc from the sleeve and pack the disc into a polythene outer cover.

Please note that unlike some ebay users I do NOT expect my buyers to pay my PAYPAL or EBAY charges. Not only is this against the spirit of the eBay "community" it is also forbidden by eBay's rules!
