THIS "BEATLES ON APPLE" SLEEVE IS REALLY EXTREMELY RARE AS ONLY A VERY SMALL AMOUNT WERE MADE WITH THE 'THUMB TAB CUT. AS FOR THE 45, THERE ARE MANY APPLE VARIANTS OF THIS RECORD (APPROXIMATELY EIGHT), BUT THIS IS THE VERY FIRST ISSUE. Hey Jude Scranton pressing with black 'The Beatles on Apple' straight cut sleeve:
EX/NM Mono 'Hey Jude' that appears to rarely had a needle on it. NO scratches and NO scuffs. Ultra high gloss. The best of the best. 'The Beatles on Apple' sleeve is EX with NO seam splits, NO rips/tears, NO writing with sharp corners !!
This is the very scarce first commercial issue of the Beatles 45 single on their new Apple label, featuring the first label variation WITHOUT the George Martin Production credit or the 'Recorded in England' statement, pressed in Scranton.

The song 'Hey Jude' was quite popular for the American record buying public, having been a huge hit in the fall of 1968. It stayed in the #1 spot on the Billboard singles chart for nine weeks, becoming not only the most successful American single for the group but even coming in as the biggest hit of the entire decade by any artist.
One of The Beatles’ most successful singles, 'Hey Jude / Revolution' was issued in the US on August 26, 1968. It was also the group’s first on their Apple label, and had the catalog number Apple 2276.
Hey Jude was a huge success in America, spending a total of 19 weeks on the charts from 14 September. The previous day it was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America.
The single topped the US Billboard chart for nine consecutive weeks, from 28 September to 23 November 1968. It was the longest time spent by a Beatles single at number one, and also set the record for the longest US number one single.
Additionally, as some US charts counted 'A' and 'B' sides separately, combining sales and airplay for their rankings, at one point Record World had Hey Jude at number one and Revolution at number two.

From first-release pressing from Scranton, with label copy printed in offset, A side label copy printed more towards the center, master numbers set in closed-spaced serif font, absence of producer credit and "Recorded in England" notice.
"Mfd. by Apple..." rim print on "sliced apple" B side ONLY !! Jagged rim. East Coast Pressing at Scranton, Pa. Apple did not prepared a picture sleeve for "HEY JUDE", making it the first Capitol-distributed Beatles single issued without a picture sleeve. Instead, the record was packaged in "The Beatles on Apple" sleeves.
East coast singles were issued in straight cut sleeves manufactured by Queens Litho.
Scranton pressings can be identified by the logo of the △ International Association Machinists △ stamped in their trail off areas. The label for Scranton records were printed by Queens Litho in New York, with the label copy overprinted by Keystone Printed Specialties Co., Inc. of Scranton.
