This precious treasure is from our family extended collection. Hope someone would appreciate and it’s head over a safe home, to value the sentiment behind as it’s been under our possession for almost 40 years.
1st U.S. Mono Pressing and iconic and rare masterpiece, released in 1958.
This was Ray Barreto’s first appearance under Blue Note Records before being part of Fania All Stars. Back then, drum was viewed as a mere adornment and Barretto rarely performed on the road with these musicians. Donaldson, who made some of his most significant Blue Note recordings with Barretto, never took Ray on tour.
Although many bebop fans despised the conga because of its rigid beats, as time and the music progressed, the instrument became more widely accepted. After several years of being one of the most in-demand sidemen in jazz, Barretto formed his first ensemble, Charanga La Moderna, in 1962.
It was with Charanga that he recorded the boogaloo standard, "El Watusi" in 1962. The song became a huge national hit and helped establish Barretto as a bandleader, but to this day the drummer is somewhat critical of its success.
Jacket Graded (VG) features one or two corner dings, and some discoloration and light stain at the back. However, no split seams or scuffs, but holds decently strong despite its many decades of being well taken care under our vault.
Vinyl Graded (VG) a couple of visible hairlines or marks, however, playable throughout all tracks. No skips, no pops and no background heavy noises. Lucid sound, tested with an ORTOFON cartridge needle to preserve and obtain its original high quality trembling and beautiful sound. You won’t be disappointed.
This is a glorious piece of American music history you don’t want to miss.
Bid with confidence, if you have some questions do not hesitate contacting us.
Best of Luck!
