Vinyl: Very Good -
Visually the vinyl has some signs of careful use and playback, some visual scuff marks and the odd scratch but nothing too bad for it's age - That is until we get to Side 2 where "What Goes On" which has a visible circular mark in the grooves going all around the record for multiple rotations. Please see the last photo in the listing for this. From a glance it looks like it must be gouged out, but surprisingly this section of the song still plays through without any jumps or skips and this was tested on multiple turntables. It does have audible crackle / distortion and ticks as the stylus plays through this passage but otherwise the grooves aren't too affected by it and the album as a whole still plays through completely from beginning to end with decent sound all the way through.
This -2 / -2 stereo cutting was replaced early on as it had the same harshness in it's sound that the mono -1/-1 "Loud Cut" copies were known for, so it's treble-shy sound may be mistaken for mis-tracking or groove wear but I can guarantee that this is still a decently clean playing example of this pressing and surface noise is generally at a minimum for the most part when listening through headphones. The most audible interruptions are the aforementioned passage on "What Goes On", the odd tick and pop here and there and some passages of light rotational clicks on "I'm Looking Through You" and "In My Life". The audio on the first side is definitely a bit better than the second, which would grade as VG on it's own, but overall it all brings a very safe Very Good - audio experience - and you might be quite surprised when listening to it!
Cover: Good+
The cover shows some obvious signs of storage and wear over the years, but for the most part it's still holding up alright. This would have been graded the same as the vinyl if it weren't for some visible seam damage to the top and bottom and the damage to the spine text, which now can't be properly read. It shows some discolouration and laminate wear with age, but it's not too bad and it could clean up to be a bit better. It still looks alright and feels good to hold in the hand, but it clearly isn't what it once was.
Unfortunately the original inner sleeve was damaged beyond recovery so I've included an anti-static archival inner sleeve for free.
