  1. ORIGINAL 1984 DEMO CASSETTE RECORDING ...
Tormentor is of course the original moniker of what became better known as Kreator.

Even at this early stage of his career it is clear that Millie Petrozza could bring the riffs. He would have been around 16-17 when this demo was recorded and his guitar work is the best thing about it. However, the rest of the band, and indeed often Millie too, is just plain sloppy. Which is kind of funny for a band that would go on to be well known for nailing down crazy fast and tight thrash records. It's easy to say with the benefit of retrospect, but "End of the World" is definitely a glimpse into a band that has potential but has yet to hit their stride -- but that is the beauty of it! RAW & PRIMITIVE BASEMENT DWELLERS

A striking difference between this Tormentor demo and what Kreator became known for is the difference in their voices. Millie is largely the same as he would be from the first Kreator record on, while Ventor has a bit more "melody" to his voice. Both Millie and Ventor do these almost Tom Araya type screams that are more often than not very anti-climactic. That classic rasp does surface often, but they inevitably go back to those screams.

"End of the World" is only a demo release, so there's definitely some leeway that needs to be given with production quality here. While having a typical "demo-rawness", it was obviously done in some sort of professional studio because unlike a lot of demos from this time period every instrument is audible and present in the mix.

Overall, TORMENTOR for the early Kreator fanatic and fan of raw heaviness. There's a decent, much more raw and under-rehearsed, version of "Tormentor" on this demo which is of course a song that would go on to stay with Kreator up to this day. But the raw energy that is found on "Endless Pain" isn't quite fully harnessed on this demo and there isn't anything on it that wasn't done better later on in their careers. That being said, it was widely revered by the underground when it came out, and it absolutely is an important piece of what eventually became the mighty 80's thrash scene.
