Description
PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us. Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 18,000 positive feedback. We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHIPPING: USA ~ 1 LP = $4.00 Media Priority rates vary by area; please inquire. "PORTABLE MADNESS"
- Sensations' Fix
- ..|/\|...............................................|/\|..
- ITALY - POLYDOR -
- Original ... 1974 scarce psych prog classic combines all the great elements f the early '70s into one album, never a dull moment with the adventurous melodies combining harshly heavy distortion bass throttling along side pulsating drums and a trade off of searing guitar and synthesizer strings creating for heavenly backdrop effects.
- Without a doubt "Portable Madness" is the most challenging album SENSATIONS' FIX released, it's also one of their best as well. For those wanting something more challenging, this is your experience for the week!
- Italy's `Sensations' Fix' play on `Portable Madness' a hypnotic and dreamy blend of murky-dense space rock moves that share many similarities to several German artists such as 1st LP era Tangerine Dream, early Eloy and the Ash Ra/Manuel Gottsching projects, as well as much of the Krautrock sound in general. Both sides of the album form a continuous piece of music that ebbs and flows with alien atmosphere and deep space mystery. It's an album you can easily drift off to, some parts float along in blissful serenity, others have an uneasy menace and tension.
Endless thick synths/keyboards cover the entire album, sometimes creating a disorientating Tangerine Dream-like "electronic meditation" mood with repetitive and hypnotic sounds, other times enhanced with uptempo runs and grand themes. The chunky bass is not far from the classic 70's Eloy, even Hawkwind in a few brief Lemmy-era moments. It punches through the hazy fog of the album all the time, mixed so loud and prominent, quite distorted and imposing. It brings a grooving quality keeping it grounded and constantly exciting. The electric guitars swap from scuzzy dirty solos to chugging harder riffs, with occasional majestic themes and stoned soloing. The drumming/percussion leaves a huge impression on the album, one minute it's a rumbling avalanche of power, a maddening and aggressive rumble that bears down on the listener, the next it's got an almost tribal percussion sound, constantly building in urgency and drama.
There's several particular standout moments among the whole intoxicating work. Listen for the slightly off sounding guitar that creates a tense and disorientating mood in `Fullglast'! The dark `Leave My Chemistry Alone' has twin guitars playing alternate melodies, with thick glorious synths washing crystalline waves around the listener. It then shifts to haunted sinister stabbing keys like a nightmare before an uplifting Eloy-like theme in the last 30 seconds.
The final section `Relative Jump Into Water' is an unnerving droning piece with gentle wailing lonely synths over the top that's very draining and quietly reflective, a somber way to finish the album. Some people find electronic-based music like this piece totally empty and devoid of life, truly human and full of emotion.
`Portable Madness' is a truly immersive space-rock experience, a beautiful, floating, repetitive, haunting and maddening album, sounding just as mind-blowing, inventive and emotional now almost 40 years after it's release. Highly recommended
