PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. ORIGINAL 1974 Kerston label FIRST PRESS PROGRESSIVE PSYCH UNDERGROUND
..
PROTON 1
SUN.PENECILLAN.ZYMA.ANDORRA.NEXUS
USA - GERMANY - KERSTON RECORDS - FK 65017
Very Rare ...1974 Original first pressing, a tiny issue at that, not distributed outside Germany, remains a highly sought rarity centering on 5 underground progressive rock bands with distinct KRAUTROCK appeal! Here's the story:
On the vaunted Kerston label (Gaa, Tyll, Epidermis), Proton 1 features five bands over a 2 LP set, of which Sun and Zyma recorded albums many years later. Zyma managed two albums actually.
TRACKS #1 & #2 are from Zyma and are both excellent. At this stage they have a female and male vocalist, and the music is hard hitting bluesy post Jefferson Airplane rock, similar to Joy Unlimited and Frumpy. Much rawer than their later, more refined Canterbury efforts. One can only hope there is a full canister of tape for a future reissue. We'd love to hear a whole album of Zyma at this stage of their career.
TRACKS #3 #4 #5 are from the band ANDORRA named for the obscure tiny country between Spain and France. # 3 is a decent straightforward acid rocker with nice guitar work. #4 is a short Byrds like rural folk rock number. #5 is the highlight of Andorra's set, and features a nice groove with some excellent guitar soloing and shaker percussion. This track recalls Missing Link, Nosferatu and early Epitaph. Andorra show enough potential, that if an archival release presented itself, we'd be most interested.
Tracks #6, #8 features Penicillin, the odd group out in this bunch. They're basically a German language, commercially oriented, bluesy rock band. 8) is an instrumental classical rip similar to Amos Key. The listener will most certainly find some decent Hammond organ work, no doubt.
TRACKS # 9 #10 #11 moves us into the complex prog/fusion rock realm with Nexus. The addition of flute and winds to the palette makes for a more interesting ride. #9 has vocals and is the catchiest of their three tracks. #10 is the highlight of the entire Proton set and is an absolutely wonderful instrumental complex-moves rock piece. #11 is more atmospheric with electric keys, electric guitar (featuring an excellent wah wah solo), winding sax and flute. Nexus are a very mature band at this point, and another group that we hope has more in storage for a future archival issue.
#12 & #13 are for Sun and somewhat maintains the jazzy-prog flavor set forth by Nexus. #12 is the longest track on Proton 1, and has a few different movements between jazz, bluesy rock, moody folk and progressive sections. Vocals and Hammond organ are fairly dominant here. A thoughtful piece. #13 breaks out the searing violin. Flute and acoustic guitar accompany along with harmony vocals, before breaking into heavier electeified movements. Sun are definitely the most progressive minded of the bands present on this set, though not as mature or professional as Nexus or Zyma. Much different than their very first full breezy fusion album from 6 years. Another archival set that one hopes is sitting idly by waiting for a reissue label to release.
Overall, definitely a set well worth seeking out.

CONDITION: The cover: rated: "EX" (excellent) extremely fragile gatefold cover...finding a decent cover some 40+ years later is hard - it's made from something like a bit heavier gauge art paper! This copy is nice, little handling visuals around the edges but overall decent by far. Find a copy at all is hard, but any better, less chance. Overall, no alarming problems, handled previously careful enough to warrant a keeper collectible with no upgrade needed ...
The vinyl: Rated: M- shiny surface over all 4 sides (double LP) ...Play graded minty clean throughout, no problems there! All 4 KERSTON labels are clean with exception of old blanks round stickers that look not removable.
A cool addition to anyone's music library!
