ORIGINAL 1972 first pressing vinyl of the first White Witch album ...an interesting hybrid of hard rock, prog and spacerock. The excellent production brings clarity to the nimble drumming and organ/moog/guitar interplay. Lyrical concerns center on God and marijuana.
They had a great stage show with a huge book that caught fire after the singer finished reading from it and lots of smoke and flashing lights. How many bands do a concept LP on their first release? The layered vocals of Ronn Goedert are brilliant. He does go a bit camp with his high wailing voice, but that same voice drops down & lays out some brilliant Beatle-esque vocals. Buddy Richardson bows his guitar & Pendergrass wraps that space moog around all of it.
As the story usually goes for unique bands that pushed the musical envelope in that era, especially those whose record company doesn't support the effort, the band recorded two albums for Capricorn then vanished without a trace. Their lyrics were indeed as venturesome as their music, with wildly-varying lyrical references that appeared to be leftovers from 1960s psychedelia.
It is rumored that the first album sold enough copies to qualify for an RIAA gold album, but the accounting was not done. The first album reportedly reached number 51 on the album charts and the single "And I'm Leaving" reportedly reached number #48 without any promotion from the record company. Both albums were released on CD in 1999 but quickly went out of print.
