Description

PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback.   We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHIPPING: USA ~ 1 LP $4.00 Media; 2-4 discs $5.00; .50 each additional disc Priority rates vary by area; please inquire.   CANADA ~ 1 LP 8.50; 2 discs $10.00; 3 discs $11.50; over 4 please contact us for shipping costs.   AUSTRALIA, THAILAND, JAPAN ~ 1 LP $18.00; 2 discs $23.00; 3 discs $27.00; 4 discs $32.00. TOP COPY!

Original 1971 first press British issue in grainy textured cover of an obscure underground soundtrack to the British movie from 1971 about a guy that has a penis transplant and then decides to find the member's original owner.

Starring Hywel Bennet along with Elke Sommer and Britt Ekland, the movie was a relatively low key affair that disappeared into obscurity after a brief cinema run in the UK.

The Kinks had one album remaining to fulfil their contractual obligations to Pye Records and so delivered the Percy Soundtrack just a few weeks after completing Lola Vs Powerman & The Moneygoround.

The Percy soundtrack contains some of Ray Davies' most touching and personal songwriting. It introduces lyrical themes which would reappear throughout his work over the next decade - the terror of technology, fear of bureaucracy, nostalgia for a bygone age, the menacing seduction of romantic encounters and the refuge of fantasy in a world of oppression. Musically, the Percy soundtrack is the missing lik between Arthur and Preservation.

The twin centrepieces, the tender "Moments" and the haunting "The Way Love Used To Be," reflect on loss and the fragility of the time we're given of happiness as poignantly as anything in the Kinks catalogue. "Animals in the Zoo," recycles "Apeman" for a slight, if amusing throwaway, "Just Friends," visits Kurt Veill cabaret territory for a glimpse into the Preservation-era future, while "God's Children," triumphs as a searingly melodic, if somewhat syrupy, protest against the excesses of cold-hearted modern science.

This is a four star album with some five star material. Sure, "Lola" isn't the version we all know, and it wasn't performed strictly for listening, it's a soundtrack to a film! There are several songs that are incidental music, secondary to the film. There are other songs that Ray didn't allow to be strictly behind-the-film material, because it resulted in some more Kinks gems, some of them available only here, leaving no doubt that he was a consummate songwriter; of the highest caliber. To simplify, here is why this album's worth owning:
1. The Way Love Used to Be
2. Moments
3. Animals in the Zoo
4. Just Friends
5. Dreams
6. Helga
Note: "God's Children" and "Willesden Green" are available on the compilation "Kronikles." If you're reading this, then you probably already have a pretty keen interest in this band, and probably already own "Kronikles."
So, there you are. There are at least six great Ray Davies songs unavailable elsewhere that are required listening by anyone, but most certainly for Kinks fans.
