RARE ORIGINAL PROMOTIONAL COPY ~  1971 first pressing VINYL on the pink Kama Sutra label with textured cover ... the very first DUST album, a highly sought hardrock/prog (psych) guitar trio collectible ...

At the dawn of the '70s, hard rock and early heavy metal were almost completely dominated by British innovators. Dust was one of the few American bands to try picking up the gauntlet, playing a progressive brand of heavy rock that was explicitly indebted to their British contemporaries. Formed around 1968, the group featured vocalist/guitarist Richie Wise and the teenaged rhythm section of bassist Kenny Aaronson (who also doubled on slide and steel guitars) and drummer Marc Bell; plus, Kenny Kerner served as the group's lyricist, manager, and producer. Dust released this self-titled debut album in 1971 and its interesting on many levels. Guitarist Richie Wise's lead vocals on Dust are decent enough to complement his very competent guitar playing; "Stone Woman," with its shimmering slide guitar work from Aaronson, would've fit perfectly on a MOUNTAIN record. What Dust was all about is kind of difficult to get a handle on. A cool hard rock band for sure, and certainly spirited; the listener has to wonder if the group is better when progressive, or straight up heavy... "Chasin' Ladies" sports a real cool heavy riff and pretty eerie vocal by Wise, while the one song contributed by Aaronson, "Loose Goose," becomes a cookin' hard guitar jam. For their image, Dust used a photo from the catacombs on the front cover and a camel in the desert on the back. It's an amalgam of hard rock and progressive sounds which is what this in-demand album is all about...  Interesting stuff worth owning if you can get one.
