ORIGINALLY PINK FLOYD WERE COMMISSIONED TO WRITE THE WHOLE OF THE SOUNDTRACK, EVENTUALLY ONLY THREE TRACKS WERE USED - ‘HEART BEAT, PIG MEAT’, ‘CRUMBLING LAND’ & ‘COME IN NUMBER 51, YOUR TIME IS UP’. THIS IS A MUST HAVE ALBUM FOR PINK FLOYD COLLECTORS AS THESE WERE NOT RELEASED BY THE BAND ANYWHERE ELSE. OTHER CONTRIBUTORS TO THE SOUNDTRACK WERE THE GRATEFUL DEAD, KALEIDOSCOPE, THE YOUNGBLOODS AND JOHN FAHEY. THE ALBUM IS ON THE MGM LABEL CATALOGUE NO. MGM-CS-8120, WITH THE EARLIEST -1 -2 MATRIX ENDINGS AND 1 TO 1 MOTHERS. THE RECORD PLAYS SUPERBLY LOUD AND VIBRANT WITH NO DISTORTION JUMPS, STICKS, POPS OR LOUD CLICKS. (See Audio Description)

ALBUM DESCRIPTION (Scroll Down For Supersize Pictures)

 Zabriskie Point is a soundtrack album to the Michelangelo Antonioni film of the same name. It was originally released in January 1970 and is composed of songs from various artists. A 1997 re-release includes four bonus tracks each from Jerry Garcia and Pink Floyd that were used in the film, but not the original soundtrack. Jim Morrison of the Doors wrote the track "L'America" for the film, but was rejected by Antonioni (L'America was later released on The Doors album L.A. Woman). A Rolling Stones track, You Got the Silver, is featured in the film but not present on this album.

Pink Floyd's contributions to the album were recorded in November and December 1969, after the release of Ummagumma. "Come in Number 51, Your Time Is Up" is a re-recording of "Careful with That Axe, Eugene," originally released as a b-side in December 1968. "Love Scene (Version 4)" is a Richard Wright solo piano composition. "Country Song" is a ballad filled with chess metaphors. "Unknown Song" (also known as "Rain in the Country") is a relaxed instrumental. "Love Scene (Version 6)" is a bluesy instrumental. A track entitled "Fingals Cave" and another called "Oenone" were recorded but did not appear on the finished album.

Pink Floyd also recorded other unreleased material during the same sessions. Most notable is another Rick Wright composition which at that time was known as "The Violent Sequence" and would later be reworked into "Us and Them" from The Dark Side of the Moon.

I have carefully played the album twice before listing at high volume and am pleased to say that it plays through with absolutely no skips, jumps, pops or loud clicks I can only hear a little bit of static/dirt type crackle and a few light ticks in quieter sections. Generally the audio is absolutely very clear, loud and vibrant with great stereo separation.  Obviously with an album of this age a certain amount of static/dirt crackle has to be allowed for.

THE VINYL

The vinyl is of course the heavy robust early type, and generally very clean, there are a few minor scuffs/light needle marks but nothing which causes any serious problems with the audio as I have described.

THE COVER 

The cover is the original Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd laminated front only flipback with patent no. 943 895. The front shows some minor signs of storage wear some areas of laminate creasing. The rear is very tidy with no writing and a small amount of  laminate creasing on the flipbacks. The bottom corners show signs of storage wear, the spine has also a small amount of storage wear with some minor laminate creasing the writing is clear and legible.

THE LABELS 

The MGM labels show only a minimal amount of spidering under angled bright light, the spindle hole is perfectly round and shows no signs of wear, it very clearly hasn’t been overplayed.

THIS ALBUM WILL BE SENT IN A LARGE BOX WITH CARDBOARD STIFFENERS THE VINYL AND COVER WILL BE INSERTED SEPARATELY IN POLY SLEEVES AND WRAPPED WITH PLENTY OF BUBBLEWRAP FOR ADDED PROTECTION.
