Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. VERY RARE 1970 Philips by Japan superior (original) pressing that overshadows the Vertigo issue for overall cover AND audio playback quality ...besides being a much harder to find issue ... here's the story:
After the popular English beat group Manfred Mann disbanded, founding members Manfred Mann and Mike Hugg continued their collaboration in an experimental progressive-rock group, highly rated by the underground collectors crews of far and wide. Manfred Mann Chapter Three was the new ensemble featuring voodoo lyrics à la Dr. John over cool funky psych/prog influenced rhythms and infectious grooves with soloists giving their best efforts. The album overall is much better than expected, decidedly no bad tracks and somewhat in the vein of sound as the great Pete Brown & Piblokto albums.
Manfred Mann Chapter Three's first, self titled album, was released in 1969, and a bit confusing as has the same title as this album, their second, but with an added "Volume Two" to distinguish the differences between the 1st & 2nd Lp's. Nevertheless, Volume Two from 1970 regrettably was to be their last recording. Mann went on to form Manfred Mann's Earth Band, apparently trying to get as much mileage as possible out of his given name. Confused, here's more:
So it turns out that the second album by Manfred Mann’s Chapter Three was going to be called something different than the rather unimaginative “Volume Two”. In fact, the album title was originally to be "December Fourth" according to a September 1970 article in Melody Maker magazine, but for some reason this was dropped and "Volume Two" was chosen
Another intriguing thing is the gatefold cover design. Keef, like Hipgnosis, produced bizarre and surreal imagery (and weren’t they great!), but there was often a subtle (sometimes incredibly subtle) link to either a title or lyric. Black Sabbath’s “Paranoid” LP was to be called “War Pigs” – so Keef persuaded some unfortunate character to dress up in a pink leotard and wield a shield and sword – the aforementioned war pig. But, the band and/or record company became nervous of upsetting the American market prior to its release and they renamed it “Paranoid” after the hit single instead. Thereby making a confusion of the album cover concept.
Did something similar happen here with Chapter III’s “Volume Two” LP? What’s the significance of the plastic dolls heads and the solitary black doll? Is there a tenuous link to a lyric? We can’t find one.
