          THE POPPY FAMILY

\                                    USA - LONDON RECORDS - PS 574 - STEREO

Original 1969 first pressing vinyl -- Filled with surprisingly enjoyable fuzzed & psyched melodic pop-psych with an infectious grooovy sound...

The spacious production is a stoke of genious, and the use of sitar, tabla andfuzz guitar injections transforms each little melancholic psychpop-tune into pure hi-fi heaven. Blonde bombshell wife of Terry, Susan Jacks, had the sweetest most, heartfelt voice imaginable. Susan was obviously always way out of husband Terry's league. The Poppy Family were the most popular Canadian act in the late sixties, and  Which Way You Goin' Billy? is teeming with incredible, well-crafted pop-psych songs (including the disc's namesake #1 single, and the 1970 single That's Where I Went Wrong).

Sound-wise, you're going to hear delightful, catchy hippie's sunshine pop-psych at its best. Husband and wife Terry and Susan Jacks trade off on vocals, and they had an Indian drummer, Satwan Singh, who brought something distinctly unique to their sound, with his tabla / bongos playing, which, to this day, no one else has captured.

  • Susan Jacks: vocals, percussion
  • Terry Jacks: guitar
  • Craig McCaw: guitar, sitar
  • Satwant Singh: tablas, bongos, percussion

The cover: Solid:  decent VG++ with tight with no split seams, very sturdy and stiff in that respect, has some light shelf wear at very top center (camera isn't picking it up, but it's lightly there), otherwise that's the case unless lucky to find one with shrink wrap, the dark cover near impossible to find totally clean from shelf wear -- this cover is in collectible keeper condition.

The vinyl: is all glossy clean and clear, M- ...plays SO nice. and BOTH London labels are clean...
