1968 FUZZ/PSYCH/GARAGE ORIGINAL!
THE ZOO
PRESENTS CHOCOLATE MOOSE
\ USA - SUNBURST RECORDS - 7500
Plays very enjoyable...a rare, sought after hard fuzz psych nugget Lp...
Original 1968 first pressing vinyl released on the obscure SUNBURST Records, is a little hard rock psych treasure contains a brilliant Howard Leese (later of Heart) on lead guitar, capturing the sound of the late 60s, crossing Strawberry Alarm Clock popsike tracks like Have You Been Sleepin' and Get Some Beads with harder rockers like the title track "Chocolate Moose" & "Written On The Wind" With his mighty guitar, Howard Leese has captured a mix of punk garage and the SF sound of Quicksilver perfectly making this for a fun listen...Although California-based Zoo managed to produce only a single album during their short career, it is surprising how fresh and relevant this record still is, some 42 years on.
Formed in 1968 by Murphy ‘Chocolate Moose’ Carfagna, the band also featured Mike Flicker on drums and Howard Leese on lead guitar both of whom went on to join Heart, Leese as guitarist and Flicker as the band’s producer.
Chocolate Moose was released in 1968 on (Tower Records famed producer) Ed Cobb’s Sunburst label (Sunburst 7500) and is far more than just a rock album. Its strong garage and psychedelic tendencies, coupled with a smattering of R’n’B, propel the album with an energetic vitality that is underpinned by Leese’s searing guitar.
The album, rare at the time, has now become a major collectors item. One listen and it’s easy to understand why.

CONDITION: The cover: Solid enough in all areas showing light previous use. There is a very light faded word (can't but barely see it and can't read it) there is a crimped bottom left corner and a small delete drill at center that you have to hunt for to see/find (label too) ... otherwise serviceable keeper collectible from...42 years ago and very difficult/expensive to find these days. No split seams...
The Vinyl: still glossy on both sides having moderate light scuffs & light hairlines, only one can be felt, VG(+) visual, however, luckily play graded excellent = quite terrific, only a little low passive surface, otherwise bright vibrant with no groove wear.
A cool addition to anyone's music library!
