Description
Up for bids is a rare Southern Soul/R&B 45 recorded in 1967 by JAMES CARR titled:
"A LOSING GAME" / "LET IT HAPPEN"
(A Goldwax Records Release #323 / Distributed by Bell Records).
James Carr (1942-2001) began singing in church and was performing in gospel groups when he began
recording in the mid-1960s for Goldwax Records, a small Memphis based independent label.
Despite Carr's first brush with success on the R&B charts in 1966-1967, things were not going well.
By 1966 Carr found himself unable to deal with the stress of touring. He frequently wandered off and got lost.
By 1968, his mental state had deteriorated greatly and he was periodically institutionalized.
With medication, he staged a bit of a comeback in the early 1990's, but was subsequently diagnosed
with lung cancer. Carr battled the disease for years before finally succumbing in 2001.
