PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. SUPER RARE 1966 FIRST PRESSING on the famously collected JUSTICE Records label, a local Southern Carolina label who catered to TEEN SIXTIES garage bands ...
RAW and primitive - crude ago-go sounds of the sixties, all led by reverb - tremelo surfy guitar backed by pounding rhythms ... no slick production here folks!
THE ACES were a teen garage group with twin reverb guitars to the front, a sloppy drummer and vocals that give a crude basement edge to the proceedings, as does the lo-fi Justice recording. Hearing a 15-year old kid trying to sound like a rocking Ray Charles is surely noteworthy...
This mid-1960s slice of amateur garage rock will hit the bullseye for collectors into '60s teen scene garage recordings. How can this one miss with a cover with the ACES poised before dad's station wagon, and there's something charming about this crew's vision of rock and roll fame and fortune. Call it a long lost slice of Americana and grab it while you can.
Drummer Howard Caywood, bassist Michael Earnhardt, lead guitarist Tim Ervin and rhythm guitarist Johnny Nance were all in high school, while second rhythm guitarist Johnny Yarbrough was a junior high school friend. Caywood was apparently the driving forces behind the band, Having decided to start the group and recruitingthe others to his particular vision of rock and roll fame.
Signed by the Winston-Salem, North Carolina-based Justice Records, 1966's "Introducing The Aces Combo" found the group plowing through a standard mix of garage rockers. Justice's typical bare bones producing work did not exactly hide the group's musical limitations, the goal tempos and ragged blown score serve to highlight the album's low-tech charm. The same is true with Ervin's strained vocals (check out Their cover of 'Laugh It Off'). Those Were overlooked charms only underscored When you consider there is something quite charming about the purpose about the band's enthusiasm and drive.
You gotta wonder how a record company could misspell the word rhythm, as in "Johnny Nance is 15 years old and rhythm guitar player." As an added bonus, They managed to put two-title of the cover songs. The proper title of 'What Ever Shape' is Actually 'No Matter What Shape (Your Stomach's In)', while PF Sloan's song is Actually entitled 'Secret Agent Man'.)
