ORIGINAL 1965 first pressing vinyl by one of the much loved British Invasion bands who had melodic song writing skills in the levels of The Beatles ...Their first album contains two timeless massive hits but also 9 other tunes that get less mention though truly enjoyable...

Next to the Beatles, the Zombies may have been the most mature and sophisticated songwriters of the early British Invasion. If this sounds like a wild overstatement, break out your guitar and try to play their stuff. Unlike competing acts like the Kinks and the Yardbirds, the Zombies actually knew the meaning of the terms minor key and modulation. This was a big deal back in late 1964/early 1965, when the Zombies were briefly thrust upon the international scene with two smash singles - "She's Not There" and "Tell Her No." Admit it, the melody lines so strong, one or the other or both could easily be going through your head at this very moment. This is technically as tight a group of well-dressed young gentlemen as there were in '65, and they had an unstoppable secret weapon in Rod Argent, a keyboard wizard who remains on the short list of All-Time Great rock organists. There's a pure visceral thrill one enjoys from listening to Argent's berserk solos and through-lines that you may not get from most of the other pop stuff that came out during this period - including and/or especially the Beatles' stuff from '65. The Beatles had Lennon, of course, and Lennon was trying his best to rise above the fray creatively, as a songwriter; but what the Beatles didn't have, what no one else had, was a true VIRTUOSO cutting lose on their albums, not as a producer (a Phil Spector or a George Martin) and not as a session man, but as and  FRONTMAN. (Blunstone's vocal contributions must not be undervalued, and Argent was writing the material and setting the tone.)

Anyway. The album? It boasts two capital-G Great songs and an assortment good ones (sad ommision: terrific b-side 45 "I Love You"). That's par for the course for 1965. Though certainly the highs on that album are >>>> the highs on this one, which are basically a
collection of early singles, featuring half a dozen original songs combined with several R&B covers worked over by that special, very special ZOMBIES magic....
