1965 ORIGINAL MONO STEAMBOAT COLLECTIBLE GARAGE BEAT RAVER!
The KINKS
KONTROVERSY
\ USA - steamboat REPRISE - 6197 - MONAURAL
ORIGINAL 1965 first pressing vinyl with original 1967 Reprise Steamboat inner sleeve to the release! The Kinks beat rocking invasion on the USA in full MONOPHONIC glory -- and that mono mix packs a punch in the sound production, very suitable for sixties beat & mod garage grooves....
includes the 1965 original steamboat label Reprise inner sleeve.
For whatever reason Reprise management decided the band's third UK studio release "Kinks Kontroversy" needed some major work before being released to an American audience. The album was given a new title, new artwork, the song sequence was drastically changed with several tracks deleted to make a stronger effort and included UK singles not on the UK version of this album.
Against this backdrop it's amazing that the album marked a major creative jump forward for the band. While tracks like 'Never Met a Girl Like You Before', the wonderfully infectious 'Who'll Be the Next In Line', fuzzed garage/punk 'I Need You' and 'Louie Louie' were worthy additions to the band's rock credentials, the band's willingness to experiment and stretch musical boundaries came out in material like the Indian influenced 'See My Friends', the dandy-esque 'A Well Respected Man' and the rural influenced ballad 'Don't You Fret'. Elsewhere 'Naggin' Woman' stands as a nifty beat-raver. Ray and company seldom sounded as if they were having as much fun and the performances literally exploded with confidence. Simply an amazing album !!!
