Up for bids is this scarce 45 from JOHNNY PRESTON
on Hall-Way Records #1204 featuring:
“I'VE GOT MY EYES ON YOU” with “WILLIE & THE HAND JIVE”.
Terrific “Texas New Breed” Rockabilly sound!
Vinyl rates a solid M- with label just as nice.
Beautiful and shiny, record appears to be unplayed!

Native Texan JOHNNY PRESTON was born in Port Arthur in 1939. While in college
at Lamar State, he formed his first band ‘THE SHADES’ playing music at local dances.
Johnny became good friends with The Big Bopper (J.P. Richardson) who was killed
in a plane crash with Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens in 1959.
The Big Bopper had written a song called Running Bear, which he offered to Johnny
after hearing him sing with his band in a local club.
The song was recorded in 1958 at Gold Star Studios in Houston.
The producer was Bill Hall and included Johnny (vocal), Link Davis (sax),
along with The Big Bopper, Bill Hall and George Jones on Indian Chants.
Johnny was subsequently signed to Mercury records and Running Bear was released
in August 1959. The song took time to take off but went on to be a million seller.
It made the charts at No. 1 in the US and UK in 1960.
The follow-up to Running Bear was ‘CRADLE OF LOVE’ which also became a hit.
