Irving Fields (born August 4, 1915) is an American pianist and lounge music artist who was born in New York City, New York. Some of his most noteworthy compositions include "Miami Beach Rhumba", "Managua, Nicaragua" and "Chantez, Chantez," covered by Dinah Shore in the 1940s. Irving Fields' most famous album is "Bagels & Bongos", recorded with his piano/bass/drums trio, with bongos, for Decca Records, which is the earliest fusion of Klezmer and Latin music. It sold 2 million copies after its release in 1959. The next year he released the sequel "More Bagels & Bongos", Irving claims to have recorded nearly 100 albums featuring trios, quartets, orchestras and solo. His most known work is the 1960's output that directly followed "Bagels & Bongos" and fused international music with Latin, including: "Bikinis and Bongos", featuring Hawaiian music also by Roman Midnight Music,"Pizza and Bongos" featuring Italian music, and "Champagne and Bongos" featuring French music. He also did an album of songs done in a Twist style called "Twistin!".

"Bagels & Bongos", liner notes: A "bagel," friends, is an edible object shaped like a donut, considerably harder, usually consumed buttered or embellished with cream cheese and "lox" (smoked salmon). "Bongos" are a pair of small drums primarily associated with Latin American rhythms. Although you will hear the bongos played ot perfection in this album, no one, not even the versatile and inventive Irving Fields, has devised a way to play a bagel. Its use in the title is purely symbolic. In this unusual album, Mr Fields and his trio (Fields at the piano; Henry Sargent, bass; and Michael Bruno on drums) present a collection of exciting dance-tempo arrangements for piano and instrumental accompaniment. Set to the rhythms of the cha-cha, merengue, bolero and rumba, the melodies include several long popular Yiddish favorites.
