Description
Up for auction is the hard to find 1955 10" Jazz EP "Happy Minors" by Red Mitchell, Bob Brookmeyer and Zoot Simms on Bethlehem Records #BCP 1033. This is the first pressing deep groove in 10" format. Visually graded using Goldmine standards, the vinyl rates a VG+ with very light scuffs and surface wear and beautiful shine. This is a very nice copy and these 10" deep groove pressings always play much better then they look (not that it looks bad). The jacket is in excellent condition with no splits or major issues other then some light stains on the front cover. A real beauty. See pictures for personnel and song titles. The record will be shipped in a protective sleeve with record outside of jacket to prevent splits and mailed in special LP mailer. Low starting bid and no reserve.
Keith Moore "Red" Mitchell (September 20, 1927 – November 8, 1992), was an American jazz double-bassist, composer, lyricist, and poet.
Robert Edward "Bob" Brookmeyer (December 19, 1929 – December 15, 2011) was an American jazz valve trombonist, pianist, arranger, and composer. Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Brookmeyer first gained widespread public attention as a member of Gerry Mulligan's quartet from 1954 to 1957. He later worked with Jimmy Giuffre, before rejoining Mulligan's Concert Jazz Band. He garnered 8 Grammy Award nominations during his lifetime.
John Haley "Zoot" Sims (October 29, 1925 – March 23, 1985) was an American jazz saxophonist, playing mainly tenor but also alto (and, later, soprano) saxophone. He first gained attention in the "Four Brothers" sax section of Woody Herman's big band, afterward enjoying a long solo career, often in partnership with fellow saxmen Gerry Mulligan and Al Cohn, and the trombonist Bob Brookmeyer.
