DESCRIPTION:
Wow what a find! Two (check my other auction for its partner!) Voice O Graph records recorded at the Empire State Building Observatory in August, 1949! Voice O Graphs were a cheap acetate vinyl produced by someone going into the Voice O Graph Booth and speaking into a telephone-like receiver. The result was a small 6" acetate record with 60 or so seconds of your recorded voice! The Empire State building had a dedicated Voice O Graph booth in their observatory.
This record was recorded in 1949 and posted to relatives (probably a daughter sending to her parents) living in East London!
CONDITION:
The single-sided acetate is in excellent condition, very glossy with only a couple surface scuffs and what looks to be a bit of paper residue near the runoff grooves which could be removed.
The original sleeve is intact with stamps, clear postmarks, the sender, and the addressee. Only one piece of cardboard inside the sleeve, the other is missing. Seam split on the bottom of the envelope, as well as being opened on the flap.
