Life [ Edit | Source Edit ]
He was the son of music director Carl Stross and his wife Auguste, née Meyer Kill. Early on, he learned piano and violin lessons, and was already with seven years a solo concert in a military hospital on the Michaelsberg in Siegburg . With ten years he was in the master class of Joseph Joachim -Schülers Bram Eldering taken at the Cologne Conservatory. Also, the conductor Hermann Abendroth was among his teachers. Five years later his father died, so he had to find his own livelihood. He was given a state free place in the newly established State School of Music Cologne . In 1928 he won 22-year the prestigious Mendelssohn Prize . In 1930 he put his artistic exam with distinction.
He went in the same year to Berlin, where he served as concertmaster of the Chamber Orchestra of Edwin Fischer worked and Carl Flesch continued his studies. In 1932 he became the pianist Elly Ney with cellist Ludwig Hoelscher in the second Elly Ney trio called and celebrated with this international success.
In 1934 he became the successor of Felix Berber as Germany's youngest academy professor at the then Academy of Music, today University of Music and Performing Arts Munich brought in Munich. Here he founded with cellist Rudolf Metzmacher , violist Valentin Härtl and with Anton Huber as second violinist the 'Stross Quartet', which soon established itself as one of the leading chamber music ensembles. 1936 came briefly to a Duo connection with Claudio Arrau , but with the emigration of the pianist to America came to an end. 1941 founded Stross named after him chamber orchestra. With this he renewed a baroque tradition: the ensemble played music without baton conductor standing and was headed by Stross from the first desk. In 1943 he sought the connection to the Wind Ensemble of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra (chamber music community lasted until 1962. With her ??he took including the Beethoven Septet and Schubert Octet on). 1944 took Adolf Hitler him in the so-called. Gottbegnadeten list on .. [1] which he and his quartet colleagues was spared a war effort.
From 1951 to 1954 he taught as a professor at the Hochschule für Musik Köln. In 1954 a new appointment as professor at the University of Music in Munich. From there he graduated with his quartet and his chamber orchestra tours to many European countries, in the Middle East and several times to Asia. 1955 accompanied Stross as German "Ambassador of Music" Konrad Adenauer on its historic journey to the Soviet Union . The concerts in Moscow and Leningrad found an enthusiastic response and had to be repeated several times. The Adenauer and Charles de Gaulle work begun the Franco-German reconciliation designed the Stross quartet in his own way with: Together with the French Loewenguth Quartet is carried on from 1957 unusual programs by to "national-mixed" quartets, sextets and octets got together and sang in the major European cities. But always remained his work as a violin teacher centrally. Thus the Munich Academy of Music to an internationally radiating "Geiger-wrought", which spawned numerous concertmaster and soloist, as Yuko Shiokawa , Takaya Urakawa , Oscar Yatco and others. The greatest effectiveness as an educator unfolded Stross but as an agent of a chamber music tradition, which could appeal to Joseph Joachim. So were founded in the 1960s, numerous quartet associations with Stross-students as Primarii (are exemplified: Heinz Endres, Erich Keller, Josef Märkl, Gerhardt Seitz, Ingo Sinnhoffer, Kurt Christian Taurus - all later concertmaster and / or professors at the Munich Academy of music).
Stross was married to Ruth Hasse (1913-2009), a daughter of Reger's pupil Karl Hasse and had with her ??three children. He is in the Protestant cemetery at his last residence Rottach-Egern am Tegernsee buried.

As you can see from my feedback, I try hard to earn your POSITIVE FEEDBACK and FIVE STAR RATINGS.
If for any reason your transaction was NOT SATISFACTORY, pls contact me and I will work something out with you. YOU WILL NEVER HAVE A REASON TO GIVE ME A NEGATIVE RATING or a LOW STAR RATING.
Quick note on grading:
The Grade (Excellent to Fair, I don't give Mint) refers to the WEAR of the record. Any other defects are stated separately
When I listen to a record, I may also give it an aural grade (again E to F), and make a SUBJECTIVE judgment of the pressing quality for hiss and surface noise.
"SUPERQUIET" is basically noiseless, like a vinyl pressing.
"VERY QUIET" is an quiet record for a given pressing.
"Quiet" is a record that is a great example without undue noise for a give pressing.
These judgments are SUBJECTIVE and will depend one the styli, phonograph etc. you use on your own equipment.
