UNISSUED RECORDING - TAKE 2
February 24, 1930 CLICK IMAGES TO ENLARGE Offered here is a rare 1930 78 rpm Victor test pressing of Lazy Lou'siana Moon by Johnny Marvin with the Nat Shilkret Orchestra, recorded Feb 24, 1930. This was Take 2, a recording that was not issued. This was an 'in house' test record and was not intended to get into private hands - it is amazing that this test pressing survived! Note the text under the label inscribed into the record surface.
This song was recorded again by Johnny Marvin on March 11, 1930, this time with the Leonard Joy Orchestra. That session produced Take 4 which was the issued version, very different from the previous Take 2. The Take 4 version was released as Victor 22348-A. Very cool!

AND, that's not all! It looks like Johnny Marvin wrote a little note on the label expressing his opinion of the song and signed it 'Johnny'. I've compared the writing in the note and signature to several sheet music covers that bear Johnny Marvin's inscriptions and signatures and they consistantly match very well. I am convinced this is an authentic note by Johnny Marvin. WOW!
