Alexandre SCRIABIN -- who advertised himself as "cousin of the genial Russian composer" was founder of Alexandre de Scriabine et ses Cosaques-Balalaikistes - the ensamble of balalaika players and singers of the white Russian-Cossack origin, that was very popular and enthusiastically reviewed in France in the years c. 1922-32. Many members of the group were professional artists, e.g. baritone Michel Kochlakoff who was educated in singing in Conservatories of Riga, Kharkov and Constantinople, bass Cyril Deievsky, who studied singing in Belgrade or tenor Philippe Soboleff from the conservatory of Rostov-on-Don. Their repertoire was ambitious: they sung not only popular Russian or Cossack tunes, but also Operatic highlights and virtuoso-instrumental or choral works.
