by the great Dutch soprano AALTJE  NOORDEWIER REDDINGIUS,

Among the great Dutch musical artists, the Dutch soprano Aaltje Noordewier-Reddingius has a very special place. Her beautiful voice and her very special artistry, become well known far beyond our borders. She worked together a lot with the famous Dutch conductor Willem Mengelberg, and is special known as Bach - en oratorio-singer.

She only made a few Edison discs and a handful of Dutch Columbias

Nassau Alida (Aaltje) Noordewier-Reddingius ( Deurne , 1 september 1868 - Hilversum , April 6 1949 ) was an internationally renowned Dutch soprano singer and singing teacher, a long time resident in Hilversum.

Aaltje Reddingius came from the Frisian vicar family Reddingius , which is mentioned in the Netherlands Patriciaat . [1] She was born in Deurne in 1868 in the Reformed parsonage to Helmondseweg as a daughter of the pastor Wibrandus Gerardus Reddingius and Louisa Justina Margaret Sibinga. Except two stillborn brothers Aaltje had a brother, the poet John Reddingius . Aaltje married on July 11 1893 in Delft, the classical scholar and painter Michiel Noordewier , son of Hendrik Jan Noordewier and Anne Helder.

Career [ edit ]
Reddingius followed from 1886 to 1890 studied at the Amsterdam Conservatory , first piano with Jean-Baptiste de Pauw , but they soon moved on to singing with John Messchaert . Already in 1888 debuted it as song singer in Hoorn and shortly thereafter she joined Utrecht as a soloist in oratorio Paulus of Mendelssohn led by Richard Hol . She toured with the contralto Pauline de Haan-Manifarges and pianist Anton Verheij and acted with relatives. She made ??with Messchaert and Arnold flush , while also part of the Netherlands A Capella Choir Daniel de Lange .

From 1893 her career boomed at home and abroad. Especially in the oratorio repertoire her performances made ??a big impression. [2] She often sang the Missa Solemnis and the Ninth Symphony of Beethoven and the great works of Bach and Handel . She was a regular guest at the annual performances of the St. Matthew Passion at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw under Willem Mengelberg . At recitals she was accompanied among others by Julius Röntgen . Her acquaintances were Arthur van Schendel , which it into his summer residence Domburg visited, and Alphons Diepenbrock .

In the thirties she retired from concert life, but she led many singers on, including Laurens Bogtman and Aafje Heynis , who was one of her last students. In 1949, she died in her villa New Deurne 'in Hilversum. [3]

The couple Noordewier-Reddingius had two sons. The youngest, who died young Michiel (1903-1930) was flautist in the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and performed a few times with his mother. The eldest son, Hendrik Jan (1894-1968), emigrated to the United States , where he established an American branch of the family Noordewier. All descendants of Aaltje Noordewier live there. Other members of the Reddingius live sex in the Netherlands.

The Netherlands has three lanes and three streets named after the singer. Both in Bussum and in Leiden there is a Aaltje Noordewier Avenue . The district Prinsenland in Rotterdam has Alida Noordewier-Reddingiuslaan . In The Hague and in Hengelo is a Aaltje Noordewierstraat . Deurne has Aaltje Reddingiusstraat . Also Deurne are a music 'Aaltje Noordewier' and a 'Aaltje Reddingius-communal home.

Quick note on grading:

The Grade (Excellent to Fair, I don't give Mint) refers to the WEAR of the record. Any other defects are stated separately

When I listen to a record, I may also give it an aural grade (again E to F), and make a SUBJECTIVE judgment of the pressing quality for hiss and surface noise.
"SUPERQUIET" is basically noiseless, like a vinyl pressing.
"VERY QUIET" is an exceptionally quiet record for a given pressing.
"Quiet" is a record that is a great example without undue noise for a give pressing.

These judgments are SUBJECTIVE and will depend one the styli, phonograph etc. you use on your own equipment.

Records will be packed safely between corrugated cardboard in a sturdy box with plenty of padding for safe shipment.

Shipment is usually Media Mail, unless another service is requested. Shipping is at your risk, I will be happy to insure items at your cost.

I charge actual postage plus a small fee for packing materials

As always, I guarantee your satisfaction. If you don't like the item, just return it, and I will refund the full purchase price.

Prices below are for regular 78 rpm records. Up to about 5 records, I will ship Edison Discs for the same rates. Albums from Album Sets count as 1 record. Above that and for international shipments, it will be actual weight plus a small packing charge (1-3$ depending on size of shipment)

MANY MORE RECORDS: Don't worry. I safely ship 40 - 50 pounds of records double boxed in moving boxes, and even then Media Mail will probably not exceed 30$.
