Hello again, fellow 78 rpm buffs. The job hunt is not going well, so looks like I'm going to have to start selling off my record collection. I've been avidly collecting pre-WWII 78's for over twenty years, so be sure to check my other periodic auctions for goodies. The current batch starts Wed. and Thurs. of this week (28 & 29 Apr.) and runs for ten days. The next batch will start Wed. & Thurs. of next week, and that will be it until probably in the Fall, at the earliest. Shipping will be by either Media Rate or Priority Mail shipment (your choice) in the US (or Priority Mail Int'l for international shipment). Ebay mandates that sellers are responsible for insurance now, and cannot charge buyers for insurance, so insurance is included in the final auction value. And don't worry - I pack very well (even though it's expensive for me). Of course I will combine shipping in cases of multiple wins by one bidder, but we should communicate by e-mail first so I can send an accurate invoice rather than your using eBay's automated checkout. Also, I stand by my record grading, but if you are dissatisfied, you may return the record for a full refund of the final auction value. Some of the label pictures look kind of blurry, but this is only scanner schizz. So, here we go with the next item up for bid;
STATIC STRUT / STOMP OFF, LET'S GO: ERSKINE TATE'S VENDOME ORCHESTRA, on VV+ (plays terrific !) Vocalion 15372, recorded 28 May 1926 in Chicago. Louis Armstrong was kind of a busy boy in the Vocalion studio this May 28th, recording several takes each of these two sides with his daytime employer Tate before cutting several more with the Hot Five (which were issued as by "Lill's Hot Shots"). Louis had to transition to trumpet for the Vendome job, and so that's what we hear him on here, tearing up the room. Hot, bombastic jazz classics that will irritate your wife and children (or mine, anyway). Tears are running down my face as I put this up for auction, but you can't eat it or pay the electric bill with it ! I got this from a reputable 78 mail-order auctioneer several years ago, described by him as a "V+", and I was very happy; it sounds more like an EE- to me, playing quite strongly and clearly and with great presence over light sizzle. Docks' 6th Ed. "E" value would be $ 200-300, and I have set a commensurate reserve, equal to what I paid for the record myself five years ago.
