Description
A series of great early Opera performances: From 1902 G&Ts to 40s wartime German records:
CARUSO's SECOND SESSION: G&T MILAN, GAISBERG RECORDING, Salvatore Cottone Piano on Nov 30th 1902
In 1903, G&T elevated Caruso from the red to the pink Super-Celebrity label. Also note the G&T Lingo: Gramophone Monarch record = 12", Gramophone concert record = 10" with the Gramophone, pre-dog recording angel label.
A word to pressings and stampers: As explained in Bohlig's Caruso Discography, ONLY the first, April 1902 G&T Caruso session had a stamper problem: At the time, G&T was able to produce only one stamper from any matrix. With Caruso, it happened for the first time, that over 1000 records were pressed, wearing out the stamper. So, some time very late in this pressing run, G&T remastered the stamper by pressing the rather worn stamper into wax, and thus creating a second matrix. The subsequent stampers had then all the failings of the worn original stamper. IOW: If you are dealing with the April 1902 Carusos, a first stamper may sound better, but ONLY if it was pressed before the point of remastering. If you get stamper 1 AFTER the remastering, it may actually sound worse.
By Carusos SECOND session of November 1902, G&T had finally figured out a way to make multiple stampers from the same matrix. IOW: It will not matter if you have stamper 1 or 20 of any Caruso recording AFTER November 1902, since they are all drawn from the same metal mother.

A note to grading Victrola/ Pathe/ Shellac 78 rpm discs:
Pls note that I try to be extremely conservative and consistent in my grading. All records are graded with the same criteria, regardless of genre.
I noticed that my grading seems to be more conservative than what I have seen from other sellers, so here some notes.
Surface VISUAL GRADING:
EXCELLENT - clean and shiny, as new. E minus is the same, with light scuffing.
Very Good Plus - Clean, with a little more scuffing. Some grooves spots may have some light greying. Little if any distortion.
Very Good - a clean copy, some scuffing, some greying on a single groove or a few small groove bands. Enjoyable record, maybe light distortion on some top notes.
=> Everything up to here is a great and enjoyable record
Very Good Minus - May have areas of visible wear, may have some scuffing or dulled surface. Still a great record, but ticks, pops and some distortion.
Good Plus - a worn and scuffed copy. May have other defects separately stated. Plays well, but with noise, may require filtering.
All other defects (if any: Chips, cracks, scratches, lamination cracks, label damage, needle digs) will be stated SEPARATELY.

I have a great track record of sending very large parcels worldwide. Secure packing. Larger US parcels and International shipments are charged: Actual Postage + 5$ packing charge per parcel I came up with this shipping chart to expedite billing and shipping. However, for shipping 12$ or more, if you find that I charged more than you should pay (Postage Sticker plus 5$), pls send me a note with the amount stated on the postage sticker, and I will be happy to adjust the payment. Good shipping practice recommends to ship a minimum of 2 records for safe arrival. If you buy a single record, I may add a separate packing record to the parcel. I will ship single record parcels to international buyers. INTERNATIONAL BUYERS: All'attenzione degli acquirenti italiani: http://members.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewUserPage&userid=carsten_sf I have a great track record of shipping records safely worldwide. Changes of US Postal charges in May have slightly increased the US Dollar amount for shipping, but with the weakness of the US Dollar, the actual amounts you will pay in EURO, AUD, YEN etc. are basically unchanged. As a rough guide, a single record ships around 20 - 25$ to Europe and Asia, 15- 17$ to Canada Pls check the ABOUT ME page for further information on International Shipment options Billing and Multiple Purchases:
As a default, I am usually not sending out a bill at completion of the auction, to give you the chance to look at my other auctions for combined shipping. I am happy to hold your records for a couple of weeks, and will bill you at the end of the current 4 week auction cycle. Pls let me know if you want me to bill you right away and prepare the records for shipment. Return Policy Items are described and graded accurately to the best of my knowledge. If an item has been incorrectly described, I am happy to refund the money on return of the item.
