Description
In the very early days of recorded sound, Eldridge Johnson had these tiny 3" discs made for the Buffalo, NY Exposition. These discs are short advertisements for the Victor Talking Machine Co. and carry the early "Manufactured Exclusively By Eldridge Johnson" label. How many original copies of this scarce items possibly survive, maybe 5 copies? I don't know but the copy this one is derived from is the only I've ever seen, even finding information about them on the internet is very difficult (with Nauck's auction #50 being the only reference to them that I've found). This reproduction features a copy of the original front label and a restored copy of the rear label, showing John Phillip Sousa saying "Dear Mr. Johnson, Your "Victor" and "Monarch" records are all right". Sousa ironically would soon after (famously) write about his dislike of recorded music. This is a truly unique piece of history, and you will likely never find a copy of this disc other than those I'm listing. This disc is a repressing, made from a rare original in excellent condition. It is made of a material which feels and plays like shellac, it can be played on a wind-up with steel needles or on a modern turntable. You will notice that there is a scratch in the 9 O'clock position, which can also be seen on the label, the disc is in otherwise excellent condition.The copies of this disc have my name and the year deeply engraved into the back, which can be seen through the back label.
