coated, drenched in acid, raw and melted, yet still undeniably rock. with surgical precision, garage rock converts into acid rock which in its limited vocabulary invents a religion from the ground up. a voice like Erickson is perfect for reprsenting an album/movement as explosive and unstable as this. count You're Gonna Miss Me amongst the 10 greatest pieces of music to have come out of the 60s, roaring to this day, long after the trip has worn off.
the bluesy, garagey and rocker freak attitude gives it a shot of angst, bleeding into the distorted bliss of the guitar, and the iconic jug sound stamps rhythmic energy over these barnburners. some of the ballads pass by without leaving much impression, solid garage rock. but when they're throwing Roller Coaster, Reverberation and Tried to Hide at you, it's more than worth going through the lesser moments, because the great ones peak unlike much else.
